WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
WHAT IF IT RAINS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
I am writing this post on a blustery and wet afternoon in the middle of June. With the weekend approaching, I have been daydreaming and thinking that if it were ‘normal’, post-lockdown circumstances, I would be busy making careful preparations ahead of Saturday’s wedding, with the likelihood of showers.
Whether you are getting married in the UK or even abroad, you are never guaranteed the weather. It is one of a series of factors that is simply out of your control on your wedding day, so why worry, embrace it! It is easy to say, and those of you that are planning spring, summer, or autumn weddings will of course envisage your day with beautiful sunshine whilst your guests enjoy the outdoors. Whether this happens to be the case or not, it is always a good idea to accept any conditions, and plan ahead so that regardless of the weather, your enjoyment of the day and the quality of your photographs, are not altered in any way.
I have photographed many wet wedding days at all times of the year, some of which have been non-stop with no break, most of which there is a dry window between showers. Either way, a backup plan should the weather not be on our side is essential for your photographer, with a degree of flexibility from you, your photographs will still be everything you hoped.
By far the most memorable weddings for me are ones where bride and grooms have fully embraced the elements and not let them affect their day, understanding that this is what makes your day memorable and unique. I am always very happy to brave the weather and venture outside with my bride and grooms to create something fun and distinct, using umbrellas or not, there is something very special about photographs in the rain.
