HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR COUPLE PORTRAITS WITHOUT INTERFERING WITH YOUR DAY.
MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR COUPLE PORTRAITS WITHOUT INTERFERING WITH YOUR DAY.
I have long believed that although photography is an invaluable part of a wedding day, capturing cherished memories that last long beyond the celebrations, it should not intrude and distract from what the day is truly all about. For this reason, my approach for the majority of the day is to blend into the background, capturing moments naturally and authentically as they unfold. In addition to this, placed carefully between the key moments of your timeline, I love to also take my couples away from the crowds to create a selection of elegant and artistic portraits that are the type of images that are placed on the wall and within an album.
The time that you have for these photographs will vary depending on several factors which are unique to you, which include; what is most important to you as a couple, the season you are hosting your wedding, the time of your ceremony, and any travel time between locations on the day. The months leading up to your day is when these plans are laid out, by this time your photographer will already have a good idea of potential options and can make suggestions to best fit in with your vision.
I have found that the ‘sweet spot’ that works best for my couples is around 30 minutes. This is normally divided into different parts of the day, which not only limits time away from the wedding party at any one time but also keeps you fresh so that we can take full advantage of each session. Using this strategy allows us to utilise a range of locations, backdrops, and lighting conditions, giving you great variation within your final collection.
Whatever time you are happy to dedicate towards these photographs, I believe it is at the moment you both relax in front of the camera that your photographs are elevated to another level. Having full trust in your photographer will make this a much smoother and more fun experience!
