HOW DO YOU WANT YOUR WEDDING TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED?

A great way to think about how you would like your wedding photographed is to imagine, just for one moment, looking back at a collection of images from your wedding day 5 and 10 years from now. How would you want to remember the day through a gallery of photographs?

I married my wife, Laura, on a beach here in the UK in late 2018.  We always knew we wanted a laid back approach to the day and were excited to introduce our guests to the coastal location we selected, which is so special to us. When planning the wedding and picturing how we wanted the day to be captured, there were two elements that were key for us, having the atmosphere of the day recorded through natural photographs, alongside styled portraits of us and our nearest and dearest which we could hang on the wall.  Perhaps we took this angle due to it being how I approach my own work, but it gave us a rounded representation of how we felt throughout the day, giving us memories and moments that we will cherish for many years to come.

So where do you start in the search for your photographer?  I believe it is important to browse a number of photographers to get an idea for the different styles and trends, ultimately seeking to find the kind of photographs that stop you in your tracks and capture your imagination.  With any ‘art form’, it is often hard to express why we like certain works, sometimes it just comes with a ‘feeling’.  Going with your gut instinct and not with your budget in mind, will mean you can be assured your celebrations will be captured as you envisage.  Once you have selected your photographer, I would recommend sitting down and discussing your details and visions for your day with them.  From this they will gain an understanding of what it is that you are after, without asking you specifically or directly, informing their approach to take for your plans.

The couples I work with are, for the most part, looking for an authentic representation of their day through unobtrusive, documentary images, portraying the true atmosphere of the day.  Interlinked with a series of artistic and timeless images of you and your fiancé, the wedding party, and your family and friends, it seeks to give you a complete gallery of photographs telling the true visual story of your wedding day.
