Laura and Thane contacted me only a couple of months before their wedding day, asking me fly to the other side of the globe to photograph their celebrations. To say this was a call I was thrilled to have received is an understatement! Having lived in Sydney, I knew the locations in store for the day would offer fantastic opportunities for imagery, all of a sudden the 28 hour flight didn’t seem so daunting!
I had a fun-filled wedding the Friday before at a venue here in Dorset; I then packed my bags and flew out the following morning. I arrived into Sydney on Sunday evening and was with Laura and the girls on Monday morning, no jet lag, no tiredness, just pure excitement! Typically, I had brought the Great British weather with me, with drizzle filling the morning sky, this however had no influence on the mornings' activities, the girls were in full spirit and made the pasty-white Englishman feel very welcome. After spending a couple of hours with Laura I then headed into central Sydney to meet with Thane and his groomsmen before they headed to the ceremony.
I am not sure there is a more iconic backdrop, in full view of the Sydney harbour bridge, it certainly took my breath away. Following the exchange of vows, we went into the Botanical gardens for half an hour to capture some portraits using some of the distinctive features around the harbour and gardens. The day certainly didn't end there as we set sail across the harbour to Manly rowing club, a rustic, laid back and simply gorgeous reception venue.
From start to finish, I was on a complete high, and really hope that the collection portrays the atmosphere of the day.
This was my third time in Sydney and I fall in love with the city more and more every time I visit. If you have the opportunity - go. And if you have the opportunity to get married there, contact me!
Laura and Thane, thank you for having me along to your wonderful day, it was an absolute pleasure to be invited.
